It’s the first of the month – which means a new map pack is out! This month it’s the Sand Dragon Inn, once again in collaboration with Kobold Quarterly and the guys at Open Design. The Inn sits in the baking desert heat, a rare oasis of luxury amid the sand. The thick walls and some simple enchantments keep the air cool and the wine and meats chilled. Surely nothing bad can come from stopping here for a while? Continue reading “New Map Pack – The Sand Dragon Inn”

Dark Sun Maps for IDW
I did some maps for the first Dungeons and Dragons comic – Bad Day. IDW has released a second comic series – this one set in the classic Dark Sun world of Athas. It features the adventures of a gladiator who escapes from the fighting arenas. Here’s a sample (more after the jump):
Tilesets!
Give a man a dungeon and he’ll kill PCs for a day. Give a man the tools to build his own dungeons and he’ll happily be killing PCs for a lifetime. Continue reading “Tilesets!”
The Final Midgard Logo Revealed!
In the last Kobold Courier, the kobolds of Open Design revealed the final Midgard logo, completing the set. So here it is in all it’s glory. As befits a world born of fire and ice, this one is bitterly cold.
This was designed for use in print at 2.5 inches wide. The smaller scale meant that the dragon’s head needed to be scaled up so it would still read well at small sizes. This also meant that the central letters needed to be nice and large.
You can find out more about the world of Midgard here and get involved in building it from the ground up. You can find the rest of the logos for the world in my Logos and Heraldry gallery.
Giant’s Meadhall available as a Map Pack!
Winter is coming. When you venture into the snowy north, where giants roam and mammoths stalk the icy plains, you’d best be prepared. The unwary perish in these treacherous snows.
The hall can be used for giants, or as the throne room of the barbarian king, perched on his mammoth-skull throne. A deep pit in the center of the room could be a sabretooth fighting pit, or just a convenient hole to throw unruly adventurers, before their fate is decided.
The Giant’s Meadhall is a map pack designed for use with a virtual tabletop, or to be printed out and used on the table at home.
You can pick up the map pack on RPGNow.

Dark Warriors by OGN
I was approached by the Open Gaming Network about creating a map for their online browser based fantasy role-playing game Dark Warriors. Here’s a low res version of the result:
The map needed to highlight a collection of different towns that the players progress through, Continue reading “Dark Warriors by OGN”
Manhattan in my own words
I live in Manhattan and I’ve been curating a gallery show of maps of Manhattan. I put together a map myself.
I wanted to explore the idea that maps are deeply personal – a city block means different things to different people. One person identifies it with the corner store, another with a yoga class. This is my version of Greenwich Village in NYC. And yes, it includes a flattened mouse and a micro-pig (true story).
This was for the exhibition Mapping the Big Apple: Visions of New York, at the SoHo Digital Art Gallery.
Winter, Kobolds and Beer!
Another Kobold Quarterly has hit the shelves – and with it another colour map. This one resides on the back cover and is the venue for a PC beer run. The complication is that the beer is already in a meadhall, and that meadhall is owned and occupied by giants. With bears.
The meadhall comes with a rickety bridge over an icy river, fire pits, a fighting pit, bear enclosure, mammoth skull throne and, of course, barrels of beer. Everything you could want for a memorable night of beer rustling.
Check out the latest issue of Kobold Quarterly, including a high res version of this map and the adventure that accompanies it, here.
Mapping the Big Apple Website and Show
I’ve been curating a gallery show of maps of New York by a collection of very talented artists. The maps are on display at the Soho Gallery for Digital Art until March the 16th. We’ll be having a party on the 20th to show off the maps and have some wine and nibbles and if you’re in the New York area you’re very welcome to come by. Wine will be open from around 7.30 and the address is 138 Sullivan Street, Manhattan.
If you are unable to make it to the gallery in person, you can still view the wonderful maps on display. Check out the online gallery for the show here.
